Supplements Help You Achieve Good Health

Many studies have concluded that the soil in which almost all food in America and in most of Europe is grown contains very little of what we need to sustain healthy and properly functioning bodies. The vitamins and minerals which are necessary for good health are simply not found in the food we eat. The soil where our produce is grown has been exhausted of the 50 plus minerals that both people and animals need to stay healthy. Magnesium chromium, vanadium and many others which are equally essential to help us avoid disease and to help us maintain robust good health are more insufficient in our food supply than most vitamins today. Many of the soil management practices and farming methods used by agribusiness to increase both yields and profits are extremely destructive, resulting in foods which such low nutrient contents that Americans now need to supplement their diets to stay healthy.

Nowadays most of our fruit, vegetables and grains are stored for long periods of time before they are actually sold and then they are often stored for even longer periods of time after they are purchased before they are eaten. It is a fact that many vitamins break down over time - meaning that depleted soil isn't the only culprit! Pesticides can also affect the nutrients found in food, either indirectly or directly. The application of herbicides, pesticides and fungicides during the growth and storage of produce allows farmers, retailers and consumers to storing produce for long periods of time. These are poor practices as many herbicides can alter plant metabolism and consequently nutrient composition. Herbicides that inhibit photosynthesis produce effects similar to low light conditions. Under these conditions the carbohydrate, a-tocopherol and betacarotene content of a plant is reduced, and protein, free amino acid and nitrate levels are increased.

For Example, important antioxidants like Vitamin C, beta-carotene and Vitamin E protect us against the free radicals which our bodies produce, not only with normal metabolism but also by the wide range of toxins we encounter in our everyday lives. A solution for this, remineralization (treating the soil with rock dust) is currently being explored as a solution to the widespread problem of dietary mineral deficiencies. Many early experiments have shown that it results in a phenomenal growth of microorganisms in the soil and increases plant nutrient intake.

Basically, if it's not in the dirt, it's not in your dinner! What caused the richest farmland in the world to become the depleted wasteland of poor nutrition that it is today? Our modern commercial practices are only part of the answer as the problem began quite a long time ago. In the 19th Century settlers who migrated to the American Middle West would often farm the soil without crop rotation, without letting the land lie fallow, and without putting anything back. Is these practices aren't followed after seven or eight years of continual production the soil can no longer support any crops at all. When this happened, these settlers simply picked up stakes and moved further west were they started all over again.

According to Document 264, a US Senate Report that was published in 1936, most of the American farmland had by that time become badly depleted of minerals. The report also suggested that 99% of the population who were then depending on American grown food products were suffering from substantial mineral deficiencies. Since then, things have gotten much worse. In 1992, the Earth Summit in Rio De Janeiro presented conclusive evidence that on the average, American farmland was 85 percent exhausted of minerals, compared to 75 percent worldwide. Recently, the Journal of the American Medical Association reversed its long-standing position against vitamin supplements, declaring that doctors should now recommend that all patients, even healthy ones, routinely take vitamins and mineral supplements.

So, what is the best solution today, supplementation! People need to supplement their diets with both vitamins and minerals. This means that vitamins and mineral are no longer a luxury but are an essential part of maintaining human health!
